My landscape paintings are inspired by walks and cycle rides in national parks and coastal paths around Britain. Having moved many times over the years I am now searching for a sense of belonging.
More recently I have focused on local scenery, particularly the Yorkshire Dales, which now feels like home. I explore, photograph, sketch and write to document journeys. This provides me with a memory of a particular place and moment in time; a personal cartography that informs the final painting.
I use palette knives to continually experiment with colour and layers; this creates a spontaneous impression of the mood and movement of the landscape.
