| Statement
Using a range of media from drawing and prints to constructions
and installations I explore the influence of places, how we experience
them, and how we get to know them. Current projects include developing
constructions based on the ginnels in Skipton, and a series of drawings
exploring space and light at Skipton Castle. Other recent
work is generated by responding to ideas, such as a physical
and tangible response to the 'One line on-line' project to
create hundreds of linked drawings on computer.
Experience
Nancy Stedman turned to art, studying sculpture at Bretton
Hall, after a long career in landscape conservation. For
several years she was a project manager of public art projects,
working for Public Arts in Wakefield. She also taught art
history and theory at Bretton, and drawing at Sheffield University.
Working freelance, research projects included a review of public
art projects for Bolton Metro, photographic resources in the Yorkshire
and Humber region for Yorkshire Arts, and the potential for skills
sharing between volunteers, for DIVA in Wakefield. Currently
she is managing a programme of bursaries for emerging artists for
the Art House in Doncaster, and is Development Officer for South
Square Centre in Thornton, Bradford.
